Ministry Team

Team Vicar: Revd Mark Ward

I grew up in a Christian home but went through a personal conversion in the early 1980s when I was a student in London. I trained for ordination at Wycliffe Hall and was ordained in 1993 at Hartland in North Devon. Having served as an Assistant Curate in a group of small villages west of Bideford, I became a Team Vicar of another group of rural parishes, based at North Molton, on the edge of Exmoor.
In 2005 I moved to Newton Poppleford to join the Otter Vale Team (as it was then known). Whilst staying in the same post, I moved to West Hill Vicarage in 2021.
I am married with four children and four grandchildren.

Other West Hill Clergy

Rev’d Mac Dick

I spent most of my working life with a multi-national corporation. Whilst in Holland my wife Jan and I felt called to a different path so we returned to the UK to join a Christian charity working with young people. In 2004 we moved to West Hill where we soon began working with young people. In 2011 I was ordained following 13 years as a Reader. I chaired Tipton School Governors for a number of years and really enjoy working with West Hill School.

Rev’d Ann Turner

Originally a teacher,  my first post was at Southsea Southern Grammar School where I taught English Literature to girls aged 11 to 18.   Following marriage to John, we lived in Bath where I continued teaching. We joined the parish church and among other things,  I led what became a large “Explorer” group of 7-11 year olds.
In 1984 when women’s ordination looked likely, I was encouraged to test my vocation, and subsequently trained for Ministry at Trinity Theological College, Bristol.
While Deaconess and then Deacon at St Luke’s, Bath, I was appointed  Chaplain of the Bath Hospice, and in 1994 was among the first women to be ordained Priest in the UK.   I then became the first woman Team Vicar in  Bath and Wells Diocese.
At the beginning of my career I had studied for my degree at Exeter University, and at that time had met John, so Devon was our choice for retirement.  We moved to West Hill and I accepted the Team Rector’s invitation to join the Otter Vale Team.
Since my husband’s death, my ministry has been at St Michael’s, where leading services, and encouraging people to study and understand the Bible is my joy.
